On The Fly

On The Fly is about the changing role of women in society today. She has to be tough and often go it alone in an industry dominated by men: She's masculine and feminine, sexy and professional, Sensitive and confident, Intelligent and playful. She's on the Fly! Whether it's fixing things around the apartment or managing family, she's independent and strong.
On The Fly is a design that plays on the duality of these roles. An A-line skirt was modified for freedom of movement with a spiralling bottom hem to evoke the fluidity, sensuality and power of a Spanish flamenco dancer, combined with an asymmetrical front panel and bodice with utilitarian adjustable belts and ties that play on the notion of non-essentialism: We construct Identity and gender roles that are non-conforming and juxtaposed. The Bodice complements this concept and is kept minimal, referencing a construction vest. An expandable panel slit was installed in the back panel to accommodate extra movement to get the job
